Forestry scholarship open
Applications are still open for the Southern North Island Wood Council scholarship of $8000 ($2000 a year for four years), for:
- people enrolling in full time relevant industry tertiary study, or
- an employee within the industry who aspires to further training; to improve their skills, knowledge and value to the employer.

Low-impact logging
The first thing our Iron Test team notices about Mangoihe Logging’s operation is lots of big new gear moving around good stockpiles of logs. The second thing is the lack of soil disturbance and soil exposure in the cutover. It’s a good advertisement for the industry, particularly being right beside State Highway One north of Hunterville with thousands of travellers passing by every day.

Young apprentice grows new forestry skills
Forestry apprentice Neihana Brewer is a man of few words, preferring to leave it up to others to speak of his attributes, including Graeme Benge, his employer at Fast Harvesting in Tokoroa. Graeme says the 21-year-old is an example of a future forester passionate about the industry.
