Five University of Canterbury School of Forestry students were given the opportunity to attend August’s New Zealand Institute of Forestry Conference in Dunedin, thanks to Wāhine in Forestry.
The five students were Sylvia Gordon, Lily Morris, Liv Bayne, Lucy Cartledge and Rylee Kilsby-Port.
Sending the students to the conference, titled Back to Business: Forward with Confidence, gave them the chance to step beyond the lecture theatre and become part of the wider forestry community, says Wāhine in Forestry. It gave them a chance to hear directly about the issues shaping the sector and meet people already working in the industry. These early connections can make a real difference as they move into their careers.
We spoke to each of them about their background, their reasons for studying forestry and their impressions and takeaways from the conference.
